Q: What is The Street Art List?

A: The Street Art List is a directory of street art festivals, mural projects, graffiti jams, and public art interventions (generally 2D-focused). It’s a place for me to keep track of what exists, what used to exist (as an archive), and to help connect the organizers of these projects with artists. In addition to that, I share open calls on social media and in a more comprehensive version in a monthly newsletter.

Q: Who am I/Who's behind it?

A: The person behind this project is me, Anthony Brooks. I’m a painter and visual artist based in Berlin (this is largely my motivation for making The List in the first place - For my own professional use). Since 2016, I’ve painted more than 60 murals in 14 countries and the one thing that always made this profession difficult was just the lack of public and accessible info. Which, again, led to the first iterations of this list :). In addition to being an artist, I really like lists and making/organizing projects like this and helping out however I can.

Q: Why am I making it?

A: Since 2019, I’ve freely/openly shared my list and update each/every event on it monthly as I feel that by making this information accessible, artists won’t have such a daunting feeling in terms of how many events/opportunities are out there. To try and relieve the feelings of FOMO however I can. And who knows, maybe some of us will start our own events/projects? :)

Q: What’s the future of The List?

I have big plans/dreams for this. It’s already gone far beyond what I had imagined when I first shared it in 2019, reaching hundreds of artists and countries/continents that I’ve yet to travel to. Word of mouth is a crazy thing. I plan for this to become a directory with filters and searchability and that organizers can expect to submit their events to. There are some other sites that kind of do this, but their filters aren’t useful and they’re generally more focused on contemporary art or sculpture than painting. As a result, we often spend more time just trying to find open calls than making art or actually applying.
